The next steps take place in our free and open-source app Learn GDScript From Zero.
It’s an app inspired by FreeCodeCamp and Codecademy, but made specifically for Godot’s GDScript programming language.
You can access it here:
The app, while it’s available for free, is part of the Learn to Code From Zero curriculum.
A big problem for new people coming to Godot has always been that they needed programming foundations.
Godot has a unique programming language, GDScript, but unlike other languages, there’s no official course for it.
So we set out to make that course. And a premium one, one that’d really attract people and make them stick to Godot.
This app is the free series Godot needs to grow and reach more people. We’re already working with the community to translate the app and help Godot spread worldwide.
This app will teach you the GDScript language’s syntax, but not only.
It’ll also teach you fundamentals that tutorials rarely cover.
For example, in programming, errors are your friend, not a sign of failure. Also, as programmers, we’re never entirely on our own: we constantly build upon other programmers’ work.
These are part of the essential skill you’ll need to become a developer: thinking like a programmer.
Like this course, the app pushes you to practice because that’s how you’ll truly learn to code. You don’t have to download or set up anything: it’s all built into the app.
Your next step is to head to the Learn GDScript app and follow all the lessons and practices:
If you’d like to contribute, you can access the source code here:
Once you complete the lessons, you can return and move on to the next chapter, where you will create a ship you can control with the keyboard.
